Top supercars are all ahead on power and acceleration. But now, supercar enterprises also take account into the concept of environmental protection.
Ferrari executives recently announced that the company plans to use turbocharging and hybrid power technology to improve the performance of vehicles. More importantly, the adoption will help to reduce the average emission of carbon dioxide by twenty percent by 2021. The average emission of carbon dioxide in 2007 reached 435 g/km, and now the reduction rate has achieved 40%.
At present there are two Ferrari models with turbo engines on sale. One of them is CaliforniaT with retractable hard top. This model carried 3.9-iter V8 engine owns a high engine power up to 552 horsepower, while its carbon dioxide emission is only 250 g/km. The last generation of this model was equipped with 4.3 –liter engine power, only 483 horsepower, whose carbon dioxide emission was as high as 299 g/km.
Last year, Ferrari launched its first hybrid power model – LaFerrari. This model carries a 6.3-liter V12 engine with a capacity of 800 horsepower, as well as an electric motor with 120 kilowatt (163 HP). That makes the whole power of LaFerrari reach 963 HP. However, its carbon dioxide emission is only 330 g/km.
VittorioDini, the dynamical system director of Ferrari recently said in an interview: “Our present average carbon dioxide emission is about 270 g/km, and we will take all feasible technology to realize the goal of a 3% cut annually.” He added that all future Ferrari models with V8 engines will be installed with turbochargers. For V12 engine, the company will use hybrid technology to achieve the goal of emission reduction.
