Power Shortage of Turbocharged Inter-Cooled Diesel Engine

Diesel engine’s power depends on whether its each work cycle of the volume is enough and the fuel injection pump and injector work is in good condition. That is what we should consider when we deal with poor diesel engine power.
Due to insufficient air inflow, turbocharged inter-cold diesel Cummins diesel engine caused a series of faults.
Dongfeng Cummins diesel engine was sent to factory to inspect because of too much diesel consumption, slow speed, insufficient power, too much smoke evacuation. Traditionally, comprehensive reviews were carried out to diesel engine, finding that on account of poor working conditions at ordinary time, insufficient maintenance, air filter is polluted and blocks core of filter. Machine oil is also polluted. The turbocharger rotor shaft was badly worn. The axial clearance of rotor shaft exceeds bid badly. The seal ring and oil slinger of turbocharger compressor failed.
On the basis of analysis: the above damage on some parts will cause a certain amount of oil entering into cylinder through inlet pipe and discharge with the waste gas after combustion, which result in the oil loss rising and the function of supercharger losing efficacy; At the same time the air input is insufficient. Air-fuel ratio imbalance leads to incomplete combustion of diesel engine, powered lowering, increasing fuel consumption.
According to the above analysis, the components are replaced. During test run, machine oil loss is worked out. However, power of diesel engine is still insufficient, having slow acceleration and much smoke evacuation. Fuel injection pump and fuel injector are examined on test bed while none malfunctions are found.
According to combustion state, the main reason of fault is that air inflow of diesel engine is not enough. Considering the above-mentioned test in good conditions, supercharger and air filter are just changed. So the intercooler radiator comes to problem. It’s found that, after inspection, radiator is blocked by mixture of oil and dust because the air filter is too dirty and rotor shaft of supercharger is seriously worn, causing insufficient air inflow of diesel engine, finally resulted in diesel engine’s air-fuel ratio imbalance, incomplete combustion (stretching).This is the root cause of the failure.
Do the cleaning for the inter radiator, testing again after dredging, everything is ok.
Through this case, we can see that troubleshooting for diesel engine’s s power shortage, slow acceleration and smoke evacuation, cannot only check internal diesel engine or high pressure fuel pump, supercharger and injector, but also see whether radiator and air filter are blocked. We hope that all of driver can take this as a lesson, enhancing vehicle maintenance, keep clearing on air filter and reducing unnecessary economic losses.
